Hello Safura, thank you for taking time away from your busy schedule to talk with us today.

Hi! Thank you very much for remembering me, I am very pleased! (Smiles).

Who is Safura and where is she from?

Safura was born in the one of the worlds more beautiful places where the east meets west situated by the beautiful Caspian sea. This country is Azerbaijan and I was born in the capital Baku city. Safura is a singer who loves music very much and lives her life with the music happily with my family (Smiles).

You made your way to the music industry after reaching 5th position at the 2010 Eurovison contest while representing your country with the song, Drip Drop. How was that feeling like?

That feeling was great. It was a big responsibility to represent my country. Every second was very exciting for me. But It was my target and I did it. And till now I feel blessed when I hear my song and remember those amazing days. It is a big happiness for me to know that people love my song and till now they are listening and remembering me (Smiles).

What actually inspired you to a musical career?

It was my dream from my childhood. And my mom was the one who always believed in me. I was a kid who were always dreaming (Smiles) and I always liked to close my eyes and dream. I can’t say what was my inspiration but I can say that my life was an inspiration for me. I was always in a positive way and I always believed that I will get success.

What is the music industry like in Azerbaijan?

In Azerbaijan people love music. In Azerbaijan music splits in many ways. There is Folk music, we have Mugam music (this is Azerbaijan traditional music), especially in Baku you can hear Jazz and every year there is a Jazz Festival. In Gabala in the summer every year there is an International Music Festival and of course we have pop, rock...

Making waves in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Turkey to name a few at the age of 17, how did that affect and shape your music career today?

After my participation on Eurovision I worked for a few years in the music industry and on that time I met my husband and I got married. My life changed in a different way. Because I could not mix my musical career with my family life. It would be very difficult for me. So most of the time I dedicated to my family.

Your latest single, "High on Your Love" is out now and on VMN Music. What is the story and inspiration behind this new single?

I got an email from Michael James Down. He sent me a few songs and asked me to listen to them, choose one and sing it. After listening I choose “High on your love” and I really liked this song. It is a great song. I want to thank Michael for giving me an opportunity to have this song in my repertoire.

Safura! Is that your stage moniker? What does it mean?

No, Safura is my real name it means a flickering star.

How do you think you differ from other artists?

Every artist has their own style, voice, image. So it is difficult for me to say. Maybe viewers could see this and tell. For me it is a voice timbre which distinguishes singers.

Who are your favorite musicians and how did they influence your music and style?

There is many of them. There is many of them but I want to emphasize: Beyonce, JLo, The Weekend, Sam Smith, Sia.. These artists always inspired me.

My father is a painter and since I was a child I was watching him, how he paints and I loved to paint. He always teach me how to paint in a professional way. I have my own style. I love to paint till this day. And I have my own “ARTSAF Gallery” where I exhibit them.

What do you think of the music industry in 2020?

I would say that I love how it goes, how the music changes. What can I say more? (Laughs)

Any advice for the younger generation aspiring to become musicians?

Go to your dream, believe in yourself, work on yourself and first of all the most important think is to be positive, to live positive, always be thankful and never give up. Believe me if your soul is pure if you are not jealous (in a bad way) to anyone, you can do it.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

Yes I have a tattoo. It is the name of my husband and first alphabet of my kids.
